More than just physical…..

Students learn a lot more than just how to do a good roundhouse kick at the Manchester School of Tae Kwon Do. The physical lessons are definitely important but the mental lessons learned benefit our members in many areas of their lives including in classrooms, in the workplace, and at home

Understand the benefits…..

The full benefit of martial arts training is not always or immediately obvious. Yes, it's a great workout, you are learning self-defense, and you feel better physically, but that is only one aspect. You are also benefitting mentally and socially.

Physical improvement…

Taken as pure exercise, your workout at the Manchester School of Tae Kwon Do develops:

  • Cardiovascular fitness as well as muscular strength
  • Heightened sense of balance
  • Specific skills to avoid injury (like learning how to fall properly).

    Additional benefits:

  • The benefits of physical fitness for children are well-documented
  • Physically active children have fewer chronic health problems
  • Regular training causes incremental improvements in fitness.
  • One Alarming Statistic:
The American Council on Exercise states that by the time they reach high school, 63% of children are no longer physically active.

    Mental improvement…

Another benefit of workouts at the Manchester School of Tae Kwon Do is the mental workout.
    Focus...is Key

Studying martial arts at the Manchester School of Tae Kwon Do

  • Improves mental focus.
  • Aids and increases concentration
  • Exercises extensive memorization
  • These instructional techniques: repetition leading to memorization and then testing the implementation of that knowledge (for example through Kata or sparring), are naturally adaptable to academic settings or the workplace.

    Additional skills and benefits:

  • Goal Setting
  • Self-Discipline
  • Personal Security and Self-Defense
  • Increased awareness
  • Learning to tackle complex and comprehensive bodies of knowledge by breaking them down into smaller portions is a skill that can help outside the martial arts as well, whether it's learning to swim or learning calculus. The regimented nature of martial arts instruction fosters a deep sense of self-discipline in students, so students learn that reaching their goals will require patience, hard work, and dedicated study over time.

    Social improvement…

Acquiring and demonstrating proper social skills and cues help to shape a positive outlook and contribute greatly to personal success.

Manchester School of Tae Kwon Do students learn and are expected to practice positive traits such as:

  • Camaraderie
  • Self-Esteem
  • Confidence
  • Respect
  • Integrity
  • A strong sense of camaraderie is based primarily on shared experiences and surpassing of challenges, but is also based in tradition and a fostered sense of esprit de corps.
Manchester School of Tae Kwon Do students gain self-esteem by meeting and overcoming challenges in their training.

Also, the physical security provided by martial arts training builds confidence--students do not have to worry any longer about the bully at school. This confidence enables students to feel better about themselves and their reactions to conflict.

Respect is too often missing in today's society and when children are taught the value of respect and see it practiced; they will often carry over to classes in regular schools as well as at home

Our instructors emphasize the importance of respecting school teachers and parents. Students show respect to each other, their instructor, and to their school.

Integrity is doing the right thing - even when no one is looking.
Integrity is the natural result of the physical, mental, and social improvements offered by MSTKD.
